Headliner:
Hackensaw Boys
With
a banjo, mandolin, fiddle, junkyard procession and an accordion the
"Boys" produce tight, rustic harmonies embodying a gritty realism.
Well-steeped in the picked, howled traditions of the American south, it's a
fast-and-fierce live show.
Friday, JULY 4, 2008 * 6:00-9:30 pm
followed by fireworks
Opening: Ron Johnson
Ronnie is like Waylon singing the blues, with a collection of
styles, ranging from boogie-woogie to straightforward country rock. Deep rich
vocals and the guitar are key to Ronnie’s signature
sound: soulful.
Headliner: Jackass Flats
2002 Virginia State Bluegrass Champs, this 5-member band
features contemporary bluegrass. This band of mighty marauders blends
mountain style and new grass to form a zingy foot-stomping style. They aim
for pure fun.
Sunday, AUGUST 3, 2008 * 6:00-8:30
pm
PLEASE NOTE: THIS CONCERT IS AT CANAL BASIN SQUARE, E. MAIN ST.
Opening: Big Enough Band
Folk, blues, and jazz jams unleashed with high energy, with a
whacky sense of jazz infused into most every tune. This band offers a nice
collection of jazz and jazz-influenced music from blues ballads, to swing, to
Bossa Nova.
Headliner: Laurence Elder
A seasoned jazz pianist and talented singer-songwriter,
Laurence Elder plays a fresh, inspired blend of jazz, rock, blues, and pop;
his music is new and original. Laurence played the 9/11 concert on the
Downtown Mall.
Sunday, SEPTEMBER 7, 2008
* 6:00-8:30
pm
Opening: Jangling Reinharts
This trio has a melting pot of cover songs from the 1960s
through the 90s: imagine The Band meets Van Morrison, and they go out to
Stephen Stills’ house and listen to The Monkeys, while watching a Barenaked Ladies video…
Headliner: Terri Allard
If you know her name, you'll recognize her smoky alto
country-rock sound. Her performance is a mix of poignant balladry and boot-kickin' honky tonk. Allard
wraps up her emotions in truly attractive acoustic melodies.
